Why Choose Ketamine?

Suffering from chronic or severe pain is debilitating. Many people who suffer from chronic pain have lost their jobs, their friendships, and their familial relationships as a consequence of their illness. The condition has led many to giving up activities they enjoy and most suffer from anxiety and depression associated with the condition.

It is well known that ketamine is an exceptional treatment option for appropriate conditions. All of the research and clinical evidence that we have indicates that ketamine works at the neuronal level to improve their healthy functioning. When pain originates in the neurons themselves, ketamine can be extremely helpful, when using ketamine to treat an ongoing injury is unlikely to be effective.

Maintain Posistive Results

Many patients who achieve positive results maintain their improvements with regular booster injections for years. We have seen a significant reduction or cessation in patients’ dependence on narcotics, with a number of them being able to resume meaningful hobbies or careers.

The first infusion of ketamine will generally indicate whether the treatment is helpful. After a ketamine treatment has been determined to be effective for your pain, we work closely with you to tailor the treatment to meet your specific needs. According to studies and clinical results, the more ketamine is given to patients suffering from chronic and severe pain conditions, the more effective the treatment. In the end, it is really the cost and the time that limit the process.

Our FAQ's.

Zen Integrative Care administers ketamine IV infusions to effectively treat chronic pain, including:

  • Chronic migraine headaches
  • Cancer pain syndromes
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Neuropathic pain such as neuralgia and CRPS/RSD
  • Phantom limb pain
  • Central pain syndromes related to stroke or trauma
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Lyme pain
  • Multiple sclerosis pain
  • Infusions of ketamine are used to manage the pain associated with hearing loss and spinal cord injuries.

Other chronic pain patients may benefit from one, two, or three high-dose infusions as needed.

  • During high-dose infusions, the infusion rate is adjusted in accordance with the patient’s response.
  • Infusions of high doses are often given over the course of one hour or four hours.
  • During a four-hour infusion, the active infusion lasts for four hours, followed by about two hours of active recovery – the patient typically needs to spend between 6 and 7 hours in the office before being released.

A low-dose infusion typically causes patients to feel as if they are floating, and they may also experience mild side effects such as visual hallucinations. There is a higher total dose of ketamine in high-dose infusions, and other drugs may be administered in addition to reduce discomfort, regulate heart rate and other functions, and control nausea. Our goal is to prevent uncomfortable experiences in all cases. To ensure your comfort and safety, we provide anesthesia administration by an anesthesiologist or anesthetist, continuous monitoring, emergency medications, and emergency equipment that are consistent with best practices for the procedure and with the Medical Board Codes for office-based anesthesia.

It is our goal to work with each patient to determine the best treatment and frequency for them. The treatment regimen can vary, but a common course of treatment would be one or more treatments at the beginning, followed by one or two treatments every six to eight weeks. Many of our patients have maintained their results despite receiving just a one-hour infusion every eight weeks, even after many years of treatment.

Treatments vary between patients in terms of the number of treatments and frequency. The treatment approach we choose for each patient is based on the individual’s needs.
